At Economy we believe economics is all around us, and everyone is part of the economy. Yet, most people wouldn’t say they understand what the economy is, or how they affect it. We believe that people should be able to talk & shape the economy beyond the parameters defined by confusing jargon & men in suits.
Since 2015 we have been a UK leader in economics communication, creating innovative, engaging and accessible strategies to talk about the economy. Our news and entertainment platform (ecnmy.org) is modelling a new way to report on economic news.
We work with community partners across the UK to create engaging written, video and audio content.

Our expertise lies in creating content that:
- Finds engaging ways to links economic issues back to people’s everyday lives
- Supports the development of confident spokespeople, using storytelling as a tool for change
- Invests in a diversity of perspectives, covering stories about the economy that are ignored
- Is co-produced with people furthest from power, empowering them to tell their stories and ideas for change
What can we provide?
We work with community partners to support them to create high quality written, video and audio content that explores the economic angles and lived experiences of different issues, from health to housing, education to the environment.
The support we can provide includes:
- Delivering accessible writing and video production workshops
- Working one-to-one with community members to co-produce articles or videos
- Working with your community to generate engaging user-generated content
- Supporting the development of confident spokespeople with lived experience of economic issues
We work with organisations on a needs basis, and have funding to offer free or low cost support to partners working marginalised communities.

Case studies
Nesta – Spokesperson service
Nesta is an Innovation Foundation. In 2020 we worked with Nesta to support four spokespeople to create impactful, personal case studies about COVID-19 and economic vulnerability. We supported Nesta to consider the needs and priorities of the contributors and consider ethical challenges. Nesta then worked with spokespeople to amplify their voice and experience in the media (with interviews in Stylist, the Times and the Mirror).
Organise – User generated campaign video
Organise is a worker-driven network of over a million people who support each other at work. Working with Organise we ran video production workshops for their campaigners, who were organising around Universal Basic Income. Following the workshops we supported the campaigners to run a call-out for user generated content on Universal Basic Income. Our in house video producer worked with Organise to develop a compelling campaign video created from content submitted by campaigners.
May Project Gardens – Co-producing written articles
May Project Gardens is a London based grassroots organisation empowering marginalised groups to address poverty, disempowerment and access to resources and influence. In 2020 we worked with them to co-produce written articles with their community members. The articles told important and authentic stories of the economic experiences of young asylum seekers in the UK.
